Day 2: The USMNT and Canada Open Their Home World Cups
Friday belongs to the other two host nations: Canada face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto at 3pm ET before the United States meet Paraguay in Inglewood at 9pm ET.
After Mexico's winning start, the World Cup's second day hands the stage to the other two host nations. Friday's schedule is a co-hosts' double-header: Canada open Group B against Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Field in Toronto at 3pm ET, before the United States begin their Group D campaign against Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood at 9pm ET.
For Canada, it is the country's first home men's World Cup match in history — and it arrives under an injury cloud. Captain Alphonso Davies is expected to miss the opener with a hamstring problem, centre-back Moïse Bombito is out of the tournament entirely, and with seeded Switzerland still to come in the group, the Bosnia fixture is widely viewed as the match Canada must win to control their own path to the knockouts.
The American evening carries even more weight. The USMNT enter their opener having lost three of four matches in 2026, and Mauricio Pochettino faces genuine selection calls around Malik Tillman's form in midfield — with established names like Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah at risk of starting on the bench. Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams anchor the side, and defender Chris Richards has been declared fit after his May ankle injury. Paraguay, organised and physical, are at their first World Cup since reaching the quarter-finals in 2010.
Both hosts will have watched Thursday closely. Mexico's 2-0 win over South Africa set the bar — a host nation winning its opener in front of a record home crowd — and South Korea's comeback against Czechia was a reminder that no first fixture in this expanded field comes for free.
In the US, Canada–Bosnia airs on FOX with Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo, while the USMNT match airs on FOX and streams free on Tubi.
